Poland will allocate a record 200 billion zlotys ($48 billion) for defense in 2026, tripling its military spending compared to 2022. The announcement was made by Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz during a joint briefing with Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
“Next year we will have a record budget – 200 billion zlotys, which is 4.8% of Poland’s GDP. This is an absolute record for independent Poland; between 2022 and 2026 our defense budget will have tripled,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
He added that Warsaw will continue increasing defense spending, including through the use of European Union funds. The minister also underscored that by 2035 every NATO country should raise defense expenditures to 5% of GDP.
Kosiniak-Kamysz arrived in Kyiv on Thursday, September 18, where he and Shmyhal honored the Ukrainian soldiers who have fallen in the war.
