Europe cannot effectively guarantee its security without Ukraine’s combat-tested expertise, particularly in air defense and maritime security, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during the ceremony marking the start of Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union, UATV English reports.
“Today, every country needs modern capabilities, at the very least to monitor and protect its airspace and maritime borders. Without Ukraine, without Ukraine’s security expertise and experience gained in modern warfare, it is simply impossible to guarantee security today, especially when it comes to air defense and maritime security,” Zelenskyy said.
The president called for closer security cooperation across Europe, arguing that Ukraine’s wartime experience has become an essential asset for the continent.
Zelenskyy also urged European partners to support every measure that makes it more difficult for Russia to continue its war.
“Russia is not acting out of goodwill. It will not stop this war simply because someone asks it to. The world’s strongest leaders, including the President of the United States, have already told Russia that this war must end. Yet Putin wants to keep fighting. That is why he must face conditions that make it impossible for him to continue this war,” he said.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is helping create those conditions through long-range strikes against Russian military and energy infrastructure.
“Our medium-range sanctions are also producing results. They are making it more difficult for Russia to occupy our territory and our lives. We are doing everything possible to make the occupation unbearable for the occupier,” the president said.
