Ukraine and Japan have signed an agreement to continue the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) program, providing up to approximately $500,000 in funding to support the education of Ukrainian professionals, UATV English reports.

The agreement, in the form of an exchange of notes, was signed in Tokyo following talks between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.

The initiative aims not only to provide academic scholarships but also to develop a new generation of public sector leaders who will apply the knowledge, research experience, and professional networks gained in Japan to support Ukraine’s social and economic development, strengthen state institutions, advance reforms, and contribute to the country’s post-war recovery.

According to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, the agreement will ensure the continuation of the JDS scholarship program, deepen the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Japan, strengthen the professional capacity of Ukrainian public institutions, and expand the network of Ukrainian graduates of Japanese universities equipped to address the country’s long-term development challenges.
