Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with a bipartisan, bicameral delegation of the U.S. Congress to discuss Ukraine’s air defense needs, diplomatic efforts to end the war, and additional sanctions against Russia, UATV English reports, citing Zelenskyy’s Telegram.

The delegation included Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Lindsey Graham, Richard Durbin, Christopher Coons, Mike Rounds, and Representative Mike Turner.

Zelenskyy thanked the U.S. lawmakers for their continued support and attention to Ukraine, describing the talks as substantive and focused on the conditions needed for diplomacy to succeed.

“We had a very substantive discussion about the prospects for diplomacy and what is needed to make it work,” Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian president briefed the delegation on Russia’s ongoing attacks against civilians and emphasized Ukraine’s critical shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems.

“I informed them about the shortage of interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems and Russia’s attacks on our people. Right now, contributions to the PURL initiative and other air defense deliveries are the top priority for protecting Ukraine,” he said.

The meeting also focused on proposed U.S. legislation to impose additional sanctions on Russia.

“We also discussed the sanctions bill against Russia. It is very important that pressure on Russia for this war continues, and this initiative can truly help bring peace,” Zelenskyy said.

The president thanked the senators and congressman for expressing respect for Ukraine’s Armed Forces and military operations, as well as for reaffirming that U.S. assistance to Ukraine will continue.

“I thank the United States and every caring American heart for supporting Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
