Equipment donated by European partners from decommissioned power plants is already in operation at energy facilities across Ukraine, helping strengthen the country’s power system amid continued Russian attacks on critical infrastructure.

According to UATV English, First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the update on Telegram.

“The Ministry of Energy has completed 199 shipments with a total weight of more than 3,300 tonnes. The equipment is already operating effectively at energy facilities in the Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, among others. We are grateful to our partners for their practical assistance and for transferring equipment from decommissioned power plants,” Shmyhal said.

The largest share of the assistance came through Lithuania. Ukraine received 152 shipments of equipment weighing more than 2,400 tonnes from the Lithuanian energy company Ignitis Gamyba.

Cooperation with the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant also enabled the delivery of 41 additional shipments with a combined weight of more than 780 tonnes.

Meanwhile, Germany’s RWE Power AG provided six shipments of equipment totaling nearly 88 tonnes, which were delivered to energy companies in central and western Ukraine, as well as Kyiv and Kharkiv.

Shmyhal added that Ukraine also expects to receive additional equipment from Latvia’s Riga CHP-2 power plant.

“We continue our work at other sites as well. Eight decommissioned combined heat and power plants in Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Austria, Croatia, and the Netherlands have already been inspected,” the minister said.

The initiative forms part of broader international efforts to help restore and strengthen Ukraine’s energy infrastructure damaged by Russian strikes.

According to the Ministry of Energy, Ukraine’s international partners have delivered 4,314 pieces of energy equipment since the beginning of 2026.
