Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the United Kingdom’s support for Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war has exceeded £11 billion, of which nearly £8 billion has gone toward military assistance, thanking British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for what he described as substantial and highly effective backing, UATV English reports.
Speaking alongside Starmer at a joint press conference following talks in Ukraine, Zelenskyy said the British contribution includes thousands of air defense systems, surface-to-air missiles, and other weapons.
“This is very tangible. And it is very useful,” Zelenskyy said.
The two leaders also finalized a hundred-year agreement on relations between Ukraine and Britain, which Zelenskyy said reflects British confidence in Ukraine’s people, its statehood, and its independence.
Zelenskyy thanked Britain for its firm sanctions policy, saying its effects are being felt inside Russia as well.
“In Russia, they know that Britain is clearly against this war and is using every means available to finally help move toward diplomacy,” he said.
He added that Ukraine has received all the necessary signals that Britain’s course of supporting Ukraine’s defense and deepening bilateral ties will continue.
Marking Starmer’s fourth visit to Ukraine as prime minister, Zelenskyy noted the two leaders have held 46 official meetings and calls since the start of their cooperation — an average of at least two contacts per month. He awarded Starmer the Order of Freedom in recognition of his personal leadership and support for the Ukrainian people.
“Britain has always been and remains with Ukraine, and we deeply appreciate that. Thank you, Kier, thank you to your team and to all Britons,” Zelenskyy said.
The two leaders also discussed the situation on the front line, Ukraine’s long-range operations, and strikes on mid-range targets. Zelenskyy said Ukraine has achieved significant results in this area and will continue every avenue of pressure on Russia to end the war and reach a dignified peace, adding that coordination with British partners will continue.
