The European Union is providing Ukraine with €90 billion in assistance over the next two years. The first tranche, worth €3.2 billion, will be disbursed today, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced during the opening of the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, FREEДОМ’s correspondent reports, UATV English reports.
According to von der Leyen, since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the EU and its member states have already provided Ukraine with approximately €200 billion in military and economic assistance.
“Today, we are disbursing the first tranche of the €90 billion loan. This is €3.2 billion in macro-financial assistance. I am pleased to announce this disbursement today,” the European Commission president said.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko noted that the funds have already been transferred to the state budget and will be used to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and social resilience.
In addition, President of the European Council António Costa announced that the European Union is preparing its 21st sanctions package against Russia.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk will be the largest event of its kind, according to European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
She said that more than 5,000 politicians, business leaders, representatives of international financial institutions, and private companies are expected to attend. More than 20 projects are scheduled to be signed during the conference, alongside discussions on new investments in Ukraine’s reconstruction. Kos added that the EU will help reduce risks for investors through European funding mechanisms.
As previously reported, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko is leading the Ukrainian delegation at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026) in Gdańsk, Poland, on June 25–26.
