“32 years have passed, but the aftermath of this awful tragedy remains a dark mark in history. Today, we have to remember thousands and thousands of liquidators who saved the world. These were firefighters, doctors, servicemen, security officers. These were employees of the power plant, construction workers, drivers, and many, many others. The formation and development of independent Ukraine is inextricably connected with the history of fighting the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster. With the stories of people who personally struggled and risked their lives to stop this catastrophe,” said the head of the state Petro Poroshenko.
