The UK’s position on providing assistance to Ukraine will motivate European countries, – Dickinson

The position of Great Britain, which announced the allocation of funds for the largest aid package in its history to Ukraine, will also influence other European countries. This opinion was expressed on the FREEDOM TV channel by the publisher of Business Ukraine and Lviv Today magazines, former Atlantic Council researcher Peter Dickinson.

“Of course, the news from Washington gave a great impetus to both Britain and Ukraine’s other partners that now it’s time to show their support on the maximum scale. But such packages, as we saw and as we see now from London, are not a matter of a couple of days. Therefore, most likely, we have been preparing for this for a long time, but decided that we still need to announce it right now, so that there is a maximum effect for Ukraine, which will support Ukraine in that it will also motivate other partners in Europe, so that they too now to show their support in a more vibrant manner, and first of all, most likely, the Germans,” he said.

According to Dickinson, Ukraine’s allies now understand that the war unleashed by the Kremlin will not end quickly.

“Both Britain and other allies must be prepared to have their assistance continued and increased. And, including Britain, also understands that they, too, may have to defend themselves and fight on their own,” he emphasized.

Dickinson noted that both the EU countries and Britain are aware that the period after the Cold War has already passed into history – about 30 years of a fairly calm, peaceful time when there was no direct threat in Europe.

“We live in a different time. This is not a time of peace, this is a time where there are serious threats due to Russia’s aggressive actions and Vladimir Putin’s imperial ambitions. And everyone understands perfectly well that it is necessary to raise the military budget in each country in order to both support Ukraine and defend themselves,” he said.

Let us remind you that the UK announced the largest aid package to the Ukrainian Armed Forces following the United States. On April 20, the US House of Representatives, after a seven-month delay, brought the decision on assistance to Ukraine to the finish line. US President Joe Biden has already signed a law allocating $61 billion to Ukraine.
