Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a gas processing plant and Russia’s only helium plant in the Orenburg region. According to UATV English, the information was reported on Facebook by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The strike was carried out during the night of June 24 at a distance of more than 1,200 kilometers from the front line.
Fires were recorded on the territory of both facilities. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.
The Orenburg Gas Processing Plant and the Orenburg Helium Plant operate as a single industrial complex. The first facility produces purified natural gas and sulfur, which is used, among other things, in the production of explosives and black powder. The second facility receives purified sulfur-free gas and extracts its most valuable components through deep-cooling technology — helium, which is used in liquid-fuel rocket engines and guidance systems, and ethane, a key raw material for specialized plastics, aviation cable insulation, and essential plasticizers used in solid rocket fuels and propellants.
The Orenburg Gas Processing Plant is one of the world’s largest gas-chemical complexes. It was commissioned in 1974 and built with foreign participation. The facility has a processing capacity of 45 billion cubic meters of gas annually and accounts for 60% of all gas processed by Gazprom Pererabotka.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces also struck a Russian army FPV drone warehouse near Alekseyevka in Russia’s Belgorod region, as well as enemy UAV command posts near Tyotkino and Popovo-Lezhachi in Russia’s Kursk region, Zhuravlyovka in Belgorod region, Chasiv Yar in Donetsk region, and Basan and Hrozove in Zaporizhzhia region.
Following additional analysis, the destruction of two Russian unmanned surface vessels on June 23 in the northwestern part of the Black Sea has been confirmed.
Among other results, damage and subsequent fires were confirmed at two buildings on the territory of the Vladimir Space Communications Center in Russia’s Vladimir region. The facility supports satellite and deep-space communication systems used, among others, by the security agencies of the aggressor state.
As previously reported, information circulated online that drones attacked Russia’s Orenburg region during the night of June 24. According to local channels, Gazprom’s helium and gas processing plants may have been among the targets hit.
