Ukraine’s MIA head checked readiness of forces and means to respond to possible situations around Zaporizhia NPP

The readiness of forces and means to respond to possible situations around Zaporizhia NPP was verified, announced today, August 17, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Denys Monastyrsky, during a live broadcast of the Yedyni Novyny telethon. Press Office of Ukraine’s government reports.

Denys Monastyrskyy together with the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko, as well as the President of Energoatom Petro Kotin, heads of regional state administrations of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions, heads of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine visited Zaporizhia on a working trip.

“We came to assess the situation around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. Since it was captured, we have understood that we were dealing with a terrorist state. All their actions will be related specifically to terrorist acts or, even, to informational terror attacks that are possible around the station,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs.

According to him, the purpose of the visit is to analyse the situation, to talk with the police and rescuers working in this area. Also, to check the readiness of forces and means to provide appropriate response.

Regarding the possible need to rescue citizens, the Minister noted that plans and scenarios had been developed: “We activated and tested them. At Energoatom, there has been established a corresponding headquarters, which includes all forces of rescuers, the police and representatives of local authorities, who will respond in accordance with the threat.

Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, on Thursday called for an immediate stop of hostilities near Europe’s largest nuclear power plant and the creation of a demilitarised zone around the ZNPP. Chief diplomat of the EU joined these calls.

At the same time, Russia rejected UN calls to create a demilitarised zone around the nuclear power plant.
