Ukraine could manufacture enough Patriot air defense systems to protect both its own territory and partner countries if the United States granted Kyiv licenses to produce the systems domestically, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said.
According to UATV English, Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine has long advocated for local production of advanced air defense systems.
“We have long made the case that we are capable of producing such defensive weapons ourselves. If Ukraine were granted U.S. licenses to produce Patriots, our own production would be sufficient both to protect Ukraine and to help partners in need,” the president said.
Zelenskyy made the remarks as emergency response operations continued following another large-scale Russian aerial assault.
The president has repeatedly called on Ukraine’s partners to expand deliveries of air defense systems and interceptor missiles while also supporting the localization of advanced defense production in Ukraine as part of the country’s long-term security strategy.
