The 4th Shusha Global Media Forum began on July 13. This year it is held under the slogan “The Mission of Media in Promoting Peace: Restoring Truth and Rebuilding Trust.”

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev took part in the forum’s opening. He spoke, among other things, about the purpose of the event.

“The idea behind holding this event was to create an atmosphere in which media representatives from different parts of the world could discuss issues of shared interest and concern, get acquainted with Karabakh and Shusha, and achieve other goals. I’m confident that the guests who have come here can see the development and reconstruction of Karabakh,” Ilham Aliyev said. This was reported by the Azerbaijan State News Agency AZERTAC.

The Azerbaijani president also once again expressed support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and added that a people fighting for its independence cannot be defeated. This was reported by Yurii Kulinich, a journalist with the Ukrainian international broadcaster FREEДOM.

The forum will run from July 13 to 14. It includes panel discussions, one-on-one meetings, and interactive sessions on current topics, including the role of media in peacebuilding, cross-border media dialogue and the restoration of public trust, international cooperation in countering disinformation, creating a safe information environment on digital platforms, media ethics in the age of artificial intelligence, and responsible journalism.

Ukraine’s international broadcasting team is also working at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum. Among the forum’s participants are Yuliia Bin, Director General of the state enterprise International Broadcasting Multimedia Platform of Ukraine (IBMPU); Yurii Kulinich, FREEДOM host and project author; Maryna Honcharuk, author and host of “Turkic Focus”; and Olena Pavlenko, head of the news department at FREEДOM’s news desk.

They are sharing with colleagues Ukraine’s experience in international broadcasting, spreading objective information about Ukraine across the global media space, working with audiences in different countries, and successful practices for countering Russian propaganda. As Yurii Kulinich notes, much of the discussion at the forum touches on the challenges facing media professionals in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
