Ukraine has intelligence indicating that Russia deliberately redirects drones toward the Baltic countries and Finland to exploit such incidents for propaganda purposes, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said during a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas in Kyiv, UATV English reports.
Sybiha noted that he and other relevant Ukrainian authorities are in direct contact with counterparts in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland regarding drone incidents, promptly sharing all necessary information.
“I can assure you that we have never directed drones toward these countries. We are working with our partners to prevent such incidents in the future… Moreover, I can state with certainty that in all these cases, these were deliberate and targeted actions by Russia. Our intelligence confirms that the Russians specifically divert drones toward the Baltic countries to use these incidents for their propaganda purposes,” he said.
The minister emphasized that Ukraine, together with the countries affected by the drone incidents, must jointly counter Russian disinformation. He also thanked Baltic and Finnish partners for their clear position attributing the incidents to Russia.
“Russia’s war created all these threats, and it is Russia that must be compelled to pursue peace,” Sybiha added.
The statement follows incidents in southeastern Finland, where two drones fell – one in Kouvola and another in Luumäki. While the origin of one drone is unconfirmed, Finnish authorities confirmed that the second was Ukrainian. Ukraine clarified that its drones were never intended to enter Finnish territory and has shared all relevant information with Finnish authorities while issuing apologies for the incident.
