The Verkhovna Rada in the first reading passed a bill on the wood market

In the first reading, the Parliament supported the bill “On the wood market”. 276 people’s deputies voted for the corresponding bill №4197-d “On the wood market”.

This was reported by UA with reference to the Verkhovna Rada.

The purpose of the bill is to comprehensively regulate relations related to the purchase and sale of wood, as well as to determine the legal, economic and organizational principles of the wood market, which will contribute to the development of this market and ensure the interests of all participants.

The project also aims to harmonize the provisions of the law on the timber market with other laws regarding the operation of the forest portal, which is important in ensuring maximum publicity of the wood market. In pursuance of the recommendations of the arbitration in the dispute between Ukraine and the EU on the ban on exports of unprocessed wood (roundwood), which recognized that Ukraine has the right to restrict the export of wood in certain circumstances.

The draft law is supplemented with a new section on guarantees of sustainability of international circulation of unprocessed wood, which proposes to regulate some issues related to the ban on exports of wood and certain wood products of rare trees, to determine the list of necessary documents for export of unprocessed wood.
