The United States will provide additional security assistance to Ukraine in the amount of USD 60 million.

This was announced at a meeting between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, UA writes with reference to the President’s Office.

The head of state expressed condolences over the deaths of American servicemen as a result of the terrorist attack in Kabul.

“As the president of a country that loses its best sons almost every day in the war unleashed by Russia in eastern Ukraine, I understand well the pain of the families of the dead and the whole American people,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

He spoke about the state’s assistance in evacuating of foreign nationals from Afghanistan, as well as Afghans who needed protection. The head of the Pentagon thanked Ukraine for its assistance in removing people from Afghanistan. Volodymyr Zelenskyy assured that Ukraine is and will remain on the same side with the United States in defense of freedom and democracy.

The parties discussed the situation in the east of our country. After all, it remains tense, despite Ukraine’s efforts to achieve de-escalation through peaceful diplomacy. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Lloyd Austin discussed the prospects for developing of cooperation in order to counter Russia’s aggressive policy in the Azov-Black Sea region, as well as ensuring freedom of navigation in international waters.

The US Secretary of Defense announced a decision to provide additional security assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $ 60 million, including the purchase of portable anti-tank missile systems “Javelin“. The President of Ukraine said that the United States is a reliable partner in the field of security, and thanked for the continued support in providing annual assistance to Ukraine in this area.

To remind, Ukraine and the United States signed an agreement on the foundations of a defense partnership.
