NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte believes that, in order to prevent Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin from daring to attack any country of the Alliance, Ukraine must be strengthened to the maximum extent possible, UATV English reports.

Bild quoted the NATO chief’s statement.

In addition, Rutte noted that NATO member states must also increase their defense spending to achieve this goal.

“If we do these two things, we will be strong enough to defend ourselves, and Putin will never take the risk,” he said.

Earlier, Rutte stated that NATO must be “ready for a war on the scale experienced by our grandfathers and great-grandfathers.”

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius disagreed with this assessment, expressing skepticism about the scenario of a full-scale war between Russia and NATO.
