Russia is currently incapable of carrying out a large-scale offensive against NATO, but it may conduct sabotage operations or provocations for which the Alliance must be prepared. As UATV English reports, this was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, whose remarks were cited by Poland’s Foreign Ministry.
Sikorski stressed that Russia poses a threat to Poland and that this should be taken seriously.
“Today Russia is not capable of launching a major offensive against NATO, and if it were preparing for one, we would see it — we have satellite intelligence. We saw the concentration of one hundred thousand soldiers around Ukraine, which had been building up for months,” the Polish minister noted.
At the same time, he emphasized that Vladimir Putin’s intentions are more serious than Western Europe had expected, and therefore no one should underestimate them.
“Russia is capable of sabotage actions or provocations that do not reach the level of a real invasion. NATO must also be prepared for such actions,” Sikorski stressed.
As previously reported, Carsten Breuer believes that by 2029 Russia will be capable of attacking NATO — or possibly even earlier.
Intelligence services in Estonia are convinced that Russia does not intend to launch a military attack on any NATO member state this or next year, but will continue rebuilding its armed forces.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously stated that Russia continues attempts to draw Belarus deeper into the war, possibly with the aim of carrying out an operation against one of NATO’s member states.
