Ahead of the Ukraine–Nordic-Baltic Summit in Tallinn, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, UATV English reports, citing the Office of the President of Ukraine.
“We are grateful to you, your team, and the entire Finnish people for your support. First and foremost, for all the military aid packages—they have been extremely helpful,” the Head of State said.
Zelenskyy and Orpo discussed ongoing efforts in Europe to develop anti-ballistic defense capabilities. The Ukrainian president briefed the Finnish prime minister on current work with international partners in this area.
The two leaders also discussed cooperation between their teams on preparing an agreement under the Drone Deal framework. Ukraine submitted the relevant proposal to the Finnish government in May.
The Head of State outlined Ukraine’s needs in strengthening its air defense and thanked Finland for its contributions to the PURL program. Ukraine is counting on continued support and appreciates Finland’s readiness to make additional contributions.
The meeting also focused on regional security challenges and possible ways to counter threats posed by Russia to European countries.
Particular attention was given to diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace. Zelenskyy briefed Orpo on ongoing negotiations and communication with the United States and European leaders.
Petteri Orpo reaffirmed Finland’s support for Ukraine, including its path toward membership in the European Union. He stressed that Finland supports the opening of all six EU negotiating clusters and is prepared to facilitate this process.
The Finnish prime minister also provided an update on the work of the Shelter Coalition, partner participation, financial contributions, and plans for further implementation.
