The current president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, submitted documents to the Central Election Commission for registration as a candidate in the 2019 presidential election.
This was announced by the press secretary of the head of state Svyatoslav Cegolko on his Facebook page .
Earlier in the day, Poroshenko took part in the ceremony of enthronement of the primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epiphany.
Today was the last day to submit documents for registration as a presidential candidate.
Currently, the CEC has registered 28 candidates: Igor Shevchenko, Sergei Kaplin, Valentina Nalyvaichenko, Vitaliy Skotsyk, Andriy Sadovyi, Vitaliy Kupriy, Yevgeny Murayev, Anatoly Gritsenko, Gennadiy Balashov, Olga Bogomolets, Oleksandr Shevchenko, Roman Nasirova, Yuriy Boyko, Oleg Lyashka, Arkady Kornatsky, Aleksandr Vilkul, Yulia Tymoshenko, Dmitry Dobromodova, Oleksandr Moroz, Ilya Kivu, Ruslan Koshulinsky, Oleksandr Danyliuk, Sergei Taruta, Volodymyr Zelensky, Igor Smyshko, Inna Bogoslovskaya, Yuri Derevyanka and Nikolai Haber.
The election of the President of Ukraine is scheduled for March 31.
