Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said he was ready for a debate with rival Volodymyr Zelensky at the public broadcaster’s studio on April 19, Oleh Medvedev, a spokesman for his campaign headquarters said during a press briefing, Ukrinform reported.
Poroshenko also expressed a willingness to accept Zelensky’s challenge to debate at Kyiv’s Olympisky Stadium after a debate at the public broadcaster’s studio was held.
“It’s not required to come to the stadium, according to (Ukrainian) legislation. The provision of the law provides participation in the debate on the public television (Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine), and the requirement of the law is the priority,” Medvedev said.
With 39 candidates on the ballot, the first round of the presidential election was held on March 31. Zelensky won the first round with 30.24 percent of the vote. Poroshenko took 15.95 percent of the vote. As no candidate received an absolute majority, a second election round will be held on April 21.
