Polls Have Opened in Ukraine for Second Round of Presidential Election

Polls for the second round of voting in the presidential election in Ukraine have officially opened as of 8:00am.

The second round pits incumbent president Petro Poroshenko against political newcomer and TV personality Volodymyr Zelensky. The outcome from today’s vote will determine who will lead the country for the next five years.

Polling stations have been set up near the front line in Donbas so that soldiers will have the opportunity to vote.

International voting began hours earlier at the Ukrainian Embassy in Canberra, Australia where Ukrainians living in Australia as well as New Zealand are able to vote. The last international polling place to close will be the Ukrainian Consulate in San Francisco, California.

In Ukraine, the polling stations will close at 8:00pm.
