PM urges Red Cross to more actively advance the evacuation of civilians from Ukrainian cities

The issue pertaining to the organization of urgent humanitarian corridors for the population in combat zones was discussed by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer.

The attendees of the meeting were: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk, Minister of Defenc]se of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov and Deputy Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Tymoshenko.

Denys Shmyhal dwelled on that millions of innocent people urgently need food, medicine, water and other critical goods.

“A number of cities blocked by russian troops, including Mariupol, are in a critical situation. The actions of the aggressor state are a crime of genocide against the Ukrainian people. We look forward to the rapid expansion of the ICRC, in particular through the Operational Deployment Mechanism in Ukraine, “said the Head of the Ukrainian Government.

According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine also counts on active work with donors to raise funds for humanitarian aid to our country.

Denys Shmyhal stressed that the Ukrainian side gave shortly permission for the free movement of personnel and goods of the ICRC.

“We are ready to continue to provide the necessary assistance to the humanitarian activities of the ICRC,” Denys Shmyhal said.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine called on the ICRC to take more active and persistent steps to facilitate the evacuation of civilians from Ukrainian cities under siege and daily fire.
