Starting August 7, 2021, Ukrainian citizens can cross the Ukrainian-Hungarian border without restrictions imposed in connection with the spread of the coronavirus.

UA informs this with reference to the State Border Service of Ukraine.

For the entry of citizens into Hungary, the requirements determined by the Schengen Borders Code remain valid (i.e. biometric passport / visa, medical insurance valid in Europe, financial security).

An exception is entry into Hungary by air. It includes an additional negative PCR-test result for COVID-19, obtained no later than 72 hours at the time of entry, or a Ukrainian or Hungarian vaccination certificate (children under 18 years travelling together with adults who have a certificate, can enter without any restrictions).

For transit through the country, representatives of the Hungarian Border Police can demand documents confirming the right to enter the country of destination (depending on the requirements of a particular country: residence permit, work visa, hotel booking, etc.).

“We should remind you about the peculiarities of staying in Hungary – the Hungarian competent authorities, in accordance with the current legislation, impose administrative fines ($ 15-$ 150) on foreigners, including citizens of Ukraine, who have exceeded the permitted period of stay in the Schengen countries before the introduction of quarantine measures by these countries” – they noted in the State Border Guard Service.

If the period of stay in the Schengen countries has ended after the introduction of quarantine measures by these countries, in order to avoid a fine, citizens who cross the Hungarian border should inform the Hungarian competent authorities that they were in quarantine, or submit documents for extending the permit to the appropriate authority and etc. (There should be a document from an official body). At the same time, each individual case is subject to thorough examination and is considered individually.

Besides, on August 5 new rules of enhanced border crossing control came into force in Ukraine. They were introduced due to the spread of a new “Delta” coronavirus strain throughout the world.
