An outbreak of lava eruptions coming from Mountain Kilauea on the Big Island of Hawaii continues to damage property and put people in danger. The volcano has been erupting constantly since 1983, but this recent round of activity is especially powerful. At least 35 buildings have been destroyed so far, and considerable damage has been done to the infrastructure of the island, including the water systems. Roads on the island were blocked and schools were closed. Local residents were warned about rising levels of sulfur dioxide in the air caused by the volcano.
