For the first time, a national forest inventory is being held in Ukraine. To increase the area of forest plantations, the state is launching the “Green Country” project. This was announced on June 7, by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the forum “Ukraine 30. Ecology”, UATV informs.

“This is not a political project. This is an ecological project for nature and the environment. We have set ourselves an ambitious but achievable goal – to increase the forest area by 1 million hectares in 10 years. We will plant 1 billion trees. I want to sign the corresponding decree on the start of the program”, – the president said.

At the opening of the forum, Zelenskyy signed a law banning plastic bags, which had previously been approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The law will take effect in 9 months.

“Unfortunately, while many countries already recycle 99% of waste, Ukraine has only 6% of waste recycled. A modern draft law on waste management has been developed to prevent amassing of waste”, – he added.
