The polls closed at 8.00pm in Ukraine for the presidential election held on March 31.

The results from exit polls inside Ukraine updated as of 8.00pm still have TV personality Volodymyr Zelenskyi in the lead with 30.6% of the vote.

Incumbent president Petro Poroshenko is in second place with 17.8% and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in third with 14.2%.

The remaining top contenders are:

Yuriy Boyko 9.7%
Anatoliy Hrytsenko 7.1%
Ihor Smeshko 6.5%
Oleh Liashko 4.7%
Oleksandr Vilkul 4.0%
Ruslan Koshulynskyi 1.7%
Oleksandr Shevchenko 0.5%

At this time, these are only preliminary exit poll results as of 8.00pm Kyiv time. The exit poll has a margin of error of 2.5% for the top contenders and 0.5% to 1% for the lower ranked candidates.

Based on these exit polls, no candidate broke the 50% mark to win the election outright. This will mean that the top two candidates will have a run off election on April 21, 2019.

Ballots are being counted and, as of 11:00pm Kyiv time, less than 1% of the total ballots cast had been officially counted. The official results will be available at some point in the future but that date is not yet known.
