Estonia supports the rapid opening of all negotiation clusters within Ukraine’s EU accession talks as early as this summer.

This was stated by Estonian President Alar Karis during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, UATV English reports.

“Ukraine’s place is in the European Union and NATO. The promise of European membership cannot remain merely on paper. Estonia supports the swift opening of all clusters in Ukraine’s accession negotiations with the EU. This should happen this summer, now in June, because there are no obstacles left,” he said.

Other statements by Estonian President Alar Karis:

  • Ukraine’s accession to the European Union would make Europe stronger.
  • Ukraine is keeping Russian aggression and its imperial ambitions farther away from Europe.

Russia is losing more than 30,000 troops killed and seriously wounded on the battlefield every month, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.

Other statements by the Ukrainian president:

  • There must be clear progress in diplomacy so that Russia does not believe the war can still bring it any gains.
  • Our long-range strikes are having a significant impact on Russian logistics, oil refining, and military production. In temporarily occupied Crimea and parts of Russia, there are already fuel shortages and, in some areas, disruptions to communications. Pressure on Russia must continue in order to bring it onto a diplomatic track.
  • Russia is attempting to provoke tensions within the European Union through the use of drones.
  • The ideal outcome of peace negotiations is to end the war immediately. The first step should be a full ceasefire, after which diplomats should do what they were trained to do — sit down and negotiate.
