Belgium allocates additional €412 million in military aid for Ukraine

Belgian government will fund more military needs of Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2024.

This was announced by the Belgian Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder on March 15, according to to the Belga media.

The aid consists of three packages, the biggest one, worth €373.1 million fund artillery ammunition deliveries which Ukraine requires in significant deliveries due to shortage of those.

Belgium will both turn to its own stocks and procure some ammunition from other countries.

The second package is aimed at providing armoured ambulances and is a joint initiative of Benelux states. In addition to this agreement, the Belgian Defense Ministry wants to arrange a joint purchase of reconnaissance drones and 300 Lynx vehicles.

And one more package, provided alongside the Netherlands, will cover three minehunters as well as their maintenance and training for crews.

So far, Belgium has allocated 1.7 billion euros ($1.8 billion) to support Ukraine.

Belgium is also one of the 11 countries who launched a “fighter jet coalition” in July, 2023 to train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16s. The state will also provide the jets, but only plans to do so 2025.
