Security preparations are underway at Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kyiv for the debate between incumbent president Petro Poroshenko and his challenger Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Director of the Interior Ministry’s Communications Department, Artem Shevchenko, wrote on Facebook that:

“The law enforcement forces of the Interior Ministry, namely the National Police of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine, have been working since early morning on ensuring public order and security during the unprecedented mass event at the NSC Olimpiyskiy.”

He also requested that all those in attendance to ensure a peaceful event by adhering to “No violence, no weapons or prohibited items” at the stadium.

The event is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm Kyiv time.

An official debate, to be held at the Suspline TV studio, is scheduled for 9:00pm. Only Poroshenko has said he will be there. There has been no word from Zelensky directly; however, a representative has said that he will not attend.
