Poland will host joint military exercises involving French and British forces this autumn as part of preparations for future security guarantees for Ukraine after the war, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, UATV English reports.
According to Tusk, the decision was made during a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris on July 13.
“We jointly decided that the first exercises, or rather maneuvers, involving French and British troops will take place this autumn in Poland. They will prepare the entire Coalition of the Willing for providing real security guarantees for Ukraine, as well as for the wider region,” Tusk said.
He added that air power would be a critical element of those guarantees and noted that the drills would reinforce earlier U.S. commitments regarding the continued rotation of American troops in Poland.
Earlier, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Bejda said that around 1,500 troops from France and the United Kingdom are expected to arrive in Poland in September to participate in the multinational exercises of the Coalition of the Willing.
