Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has called for stronger international action to help Ukraine counter Russian missile and aerial attacks after a new wave of strikes hit Kyiv and Sumy, killing civilians, UATV English reports.
In a statement, Sybiha said Russia launched ballistic missiles against Kyiv in the morning before carrying out guided aerial bomb strikes on Sumy later in the day. According to the minister, at least four people were killed and seven others injured in the attack on Sumy, while rescue operations remain ongoing.
“Russia is attacking Ukrainian cities throughout the day with every weapon at its disposal. This is not ‘pressure’ or ‘escalation.’ It is the deliberate killing of civilians by a state that has made terror its policy,” Sybiha said.
He argued that Moscow continues to present itself as interested in peace while deliberately targeting residential areas.
“The Kremlin believes it can bomb residential neighborhoods, kill Ukrainians, and at the same time be perceived as a party genuinely interested in peace. Every new strike proves the opposite. Moscow uses diplomacy as cover while continuing to kill,” he said.
Sybiha stressed that Ukraine urgently needs additional capabilities to intercept Russian missiles, destroy aircraft carrying guided bombs, and better protect civilians.
“The necessary decisions are known. The resources exist. What we need now is decisive joint action,” he said, calling on Ukraine’s partners to help deprive Russia of the ability to terrorize Ukrainian cities and force Moscow to recognize that “terror will never bring it victory.”
