Sweden has contributed an additional €124.1 million (SEK 1.37 billion) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, bringing its total contribution to more than €386 million, Ukraine’s Energy Ministry announced, UATV English reports.
The funding, provided through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), marks a significant milestone, as total commitments to the fund have now exceeded €2 billion since its establishment.
According to the ministry, the Ukraine Energy Support Fund has received nearly €1.94 billion in grant financing from 39 donors representing 26 partner countries and three international organizations.
“Support from our partners is an essential part of the modernization and transformation of Ukraine’s energy sector. We highly appreciate Sweden’s new contribution to the Energy Support Fund, which has increased the total amount of contributions since its creation to more than €2 billion,” First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said.
The fund finances the restoration and protection of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has been repeatedly targeted by Russian missile and drone attacks.
In June, international partners announced nearly €170 million in additional contributions to the fund, including €126 million from Sweden, €43 million from Norway, €550,000 from Iceland, and €125,000 from Estonia.
