Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European Council President António Costa discussed the next steps in Ukraine’s European Union accession process, including the opening of the remaining five negotiation clusters, during a meeting in Ankara, UATV English reports.
According to Zelenskyy, the leaders focused on accelerating Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership and reviewed a potential timeline for the next stages of the accession process.
“As always, I had a good meeting with European Council President António Costa. We discussed the work on opening the remaining five negotiation clusters. It is important to move forward in this direction as quickly as possible,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president thanked Costa for his continued support of Ukraine’s EU aspirations and emphasized that Kyiv has fulfilled all obligations required under the accession process.
“We discussed the potential schedule for the next steps. Ukraine and our people fully deserve this. We are fulfilling all our commitments regarding accession to the European Union,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that it would be fair for the European Union to respond with clear political signals of support by advancing Ukraine’s membership negotiations.
The meeting took place as Ukraine continues to push for faster progress in its EU accession talks, arguing that deeper European integration is a strategic response to Russia’s ongoing aggression.
