Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to discuss strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and expanding European cooperation on anti-ballistic capabilities amid continued Russian missile attacks, UATV English reports, citing Zelenskyy’s Telegram.
According to Zelenskyy, he briefed Meloni on the latest security situation in Ukraine following another wave of Russian strikes targeting Ukrainian cities and communities.
“Russia continues shelling our cities and communities. Today, ballistic missiles and attack drones were launched once again,” Zelenskyy said.
The president noted that five people were killed in Russian attacks on Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson, expressing condolences to the victims’ families.
A key topic of the meeting was the development of joint European efforts to improve protection against ballistic missile threats.
“We discussed the prospects for working together in Europe on anti-ballistic capabilities to strengthen protection for everyone – both Ukraine and every European country,” Zelenskyy said.
The leaders also discussed Ukraine’s urgent need for additional interceptor missiles for its air defense systems.
“We talked about the need for additional missiles for our air defense systems, and we are counting on support,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president thanked Italy for its continued military assistance, emphasizing Rome’s consistent support for protecting civilian lives during Russia’s ongoing invasion.
“Italy has always consistently helped protect lives. Thank you,” he said.
