The United States will continue supporting Ukraine but expects its European allies to assume a significantly greater share of responsibility for the continent’s security, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said, UATV English reports.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara, Whitaker said support for Ukraine would be one of the key topics on the agenda, with allies expected to increase their contribution to Ukraine’s defense.
“This summit will mark the first major milestone demonstrating that our allies are beginning to take primary responsibility for the conventional defense of the European continent. I believe the statements from the United States and our allies will be significant. You will see everyone stepping up. The United States, as I keep saying, is not going anywhere. We will continue doing what we do, and we expect our allies to join us in these efforts. We all understand that the stronger our allies are, the stronger NATO is. That strength has guaranteed peace for 77 years,” Whitaker said.
