President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed military support and diplomatic initiatives aimed at bringing an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine during a phone call on Tuesday.
According to Zelenskyy, the conversation focused on preparations for upcoming meetings and negotiations, as well as coordinating joint positions on defense assistance and diplomatic engagement, UATV English reports.
“We are preparing for negotiations and meetings, and this concerns both weapons for our defense and our diplomacy — our joint diplomacy with Europe to bring the war closer to an end,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president stressed that Europe must play an active role in future diplomatic efforts.
“Europe definitely needs its own voice, its own position and its own contribution to all diplomatic efforts that could help end the war. We coordinated how to move toward that goal,” he added.
Zelenskyy also thanked Starmer for the United Kingdom’s latest sanctions package targeting Russian financial networks and cryptocurrency schemes used to circumvent international restrictions.
According to the president, increasing pressure on Russia remains essential.
“It is absolutely necessary that all forms of pressure on the aggressor continue to be strengthened,” Zelenskyy said.
The conversation comes shortly after the United Kingdom announced a new round of sanctions against Russia-linked cryptocurrency platforms, banks and financial networks involved in sanctions evasion.
Among the entities targeted was the Kremlin-backed A7 network, which British authorities say was used to facilitate international financial transactions and procurement activities despite existing restrictions. According to the UK government, the network processed more than $90 billion in transfers last year alone.
The call reflects continued coordination between Kyiv and London on both military assistance and broader international efforts to increase pressure on Russia while advancing diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace.
