President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to Russia’s overnight attacks, stating that Ukraine needs a real ceasefire and is ready for it.
Zelenskyy reminded that in the early hours of May 4, firefighters in Kyiv were extinguishing fires after Russian drone strikes hit residential districts, while in Cherkasy, a dormitory was set ablaze.
The president reported that most of the 165 drones launched by Russia on Sunday were Iranian-made Shaheds, used to attack Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Kyiv regions.
Zelenskyy’s direct quote:
“The Russians ask for silence on May 9, while they strike Ukraine every single day. This is cynicism of the highest order…
… We need a real ceasefire. Ukraine is ready for calm starting from any day — but at least for a month, to put an end to the war. If there is silence, then it must be every day. If there is a ceasefire, then not just for their holidays, but for every day.”
During the night of May 4, Russian drone attacks caused destruction and fires in three districts of Kyiv — Obolon, Sviatoshyn, and Shevchenkivskyi — leaving 11 people injured, including two children.
