President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, held a telephone call with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, after four Ukrainian soldiers were killed during Russian controlled forces grenade fire in Donbas on August 6, 2019.

Zelensky called on Putin to use his leverage on these forces to abide by the ceasefire in Donbas.

“I said that this doesn’t bring us closer to peace. I strongly beg you to exert an impact on that side, to make them stop killing our people. This was the first. The second point was that we keep demining and we need to shorten the time of the building of the bridge in Stanytsia Luhanska. I’ve raised a couple of other issues, connected with our captives. This was a long conversation. I say they kill our people. He says about some details, where our people shoot civilians,” Zelensky said.

He said that he is going to hold calls with the President of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, and with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, regarding the four soldiers killed in action.

“We urgently need to meet with the leaders of the Normandy Four, so that our eyes are level, and end the war,” Zelensky said.

Earlier it was reported that Russian controlled forces attacked positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces using different armaments. Four soldiers were killed and one was wounded as a result of the attack in the area of Pavlopil.
