Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi begins his first foreign visit to Brussels today where he will declare that Ukraine’s course toward European and Euro-Atlantic integration is steadfast.
During the visit, Zelenskyi will meet with a number of EU and NATO officials – including NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, European Council President Donald Tusk, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, and Polish President Andrzej Duda, Zelenskyi’s press secretary Yulia Mendel stated.
Zelenskyi also wants to reaffirm that Ukraine will continue its reforms, in particular, in fighting against corruption, Mendel said.
Zelenskyi hopes for the continued support from the EU in its fight against Russian aggression, as well as financial and technical assistance in implementing reforms.
United States President Donald Trump has also invited Zelenskyi for a visit to the United States.
“The meeting will most likely take place after a meeting between Donald Trump and (Russian President Vladimir) Putin who are scheduled to meet at the G20 summit. However, the fact that Donald Trump’s administration is the first to invite Zelenskyi to the United States for the meeting shows that Zelenskyi has already been given a certain level of credibility from the United States,” Boris Tisenhausen, a freelance advisor to Zelenskyi told RadioFreeEurope/RadioLiberty.
