Today (July 2), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting in Toronto with leaders of the World Congress of Ukrainians and the Congress of Ukrainians in Canada.
He thanked the Ukrainians of Canada for their full support of Ukraine.
“I thank each of you for always supporting independence, our territorial integrity. The volunteering and social work that you do is difficult to overestimate. We are talking about supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian aggression,” he said, Interfax-Ukraine reported.
He called on the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada to take an active part in building a new democratic and prosperous Ukraine.
During the meeting, Zelensky and Ukrainian diaspora representatives discussed measures to create the best opportunities for Ukrainians living abroad to visit and work freely in Ukraine.
Zelensky also spoke on the importance of the Ukrainian language and of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic course.
“The Constitution states that the only state language in Ukraine is Ukrainian. I, as president, as the guarantor of the Constitution, will defend the Ukrainian language, our sovereignty, and our course to Europe and NATO,” he said.
