President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Italy, Giuseppe Conte.
Zelensky thanked Italy for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, noting the importance of maintaining the regime of sanctions against Russia as an effective mechanism for ensuring the implementation of the Minsk Agreements by Moscow, reports the Press Office of the President.
Conte congratulated Zelensky on his political party’s convincing victory in the Parliament elections.
The parties discussed the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries and interpersonal contacts. Zelensky invited the President of the Italian Republic to visit Ukraine.
The recent decision of the court in the city of Pavia regarding Vitaliy Markiv, who was convicted of the murder of Italian journalist Andrea Rocchelli in Donbas in 2014, was also discussed.
Zelensky offered legal assistance from Ukraine in carrying out a thorough joint examination of the circumstances around the death of Andrea Rocchelli. He expressed concern about the unduly harsh decision of the court and underlined the importance of consideration of case by the Italian Court of Appeal.
