Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived on an official visit to Turkey.
The plane with the head of state landed at Ankara Airport at 1:50 p.m. on August 7, 2019, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
He was greeted by a military guard and various military and political leaders.
Zelensky began his visit by laying flowers at the Ataturk Mausoleum, a traditional event held during all official visits to honor the memory of Turkey’s first president, national hero Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
Zelensky is also scheduled to meet with the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar communities and take part in the ceremony to open the new office building of the Crimean Tatar Diaspora.
At 5:00 p.m., Zelensky is scheduled to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. A joint press conference is scheduled for 7:00 p.m..
In the evening, Zelensky will leave for Istanbul where he will participate in a business forum and meet with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on August 8, 2019.
Zelensky is also expected to visit Bayraktar Makina, an enterprise that supplies the Turkish strike drones Bayraktar TB2 to Ukraine.
