Ukraine possesses all the technical capabilities required to manufacture missiles for Patriot air defense systems. The only thing needed to begin production is a U.S. license, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with the Yedyni Novyny national telethon, UATV English reports.
He stressed that representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration have already indicated their willingness to resolve the issue.
“They see that production in the United States amounts to about 700 missiles per year, and they have already transferred licenses to Germany, which has begun production. Ukraine has already signed a good contract with Germany for 600 Patriot missiles. However, deliveries are a lengthy process. Ukraine, like Germany, has the technical capabilities for its own production of Patriot missiles. We have reached the point where all that is needed now is a personal ‘OK’ from Trump. Everyone else has agreed,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
The president noted that obtaining a production license would allow Ukraine to use its domestic industrial capacity to accelerate the supply of interceptor missiles needed to defend against Russian missile attacks.
Earlier, Ukraine showcased its latest drones and cruise missiles at the Eurosatory 2026 defense exhibition in Paris. Among the systems presented were the Kazhan and Shmavik reconnaissance drones, which have already proven their effectiveness in combat.
Ukrainian manufacturers also unveiled a cruise missile equipped with a jet engine and capable of striking targets at a range of up to 150 kilometers.
