Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi dissolved parliament and called for snap elections on July 21.
The corresponding decree was posted on the presidential website with the reason given for the dissolution being the absence of a coalition for over a month.
The Cabinet of Ministers is now charged with providing funding for early elections.
On his Twitter account, Zelenskyi posted that he is asking Speaker of Parliament Andriy Parubiy to convene an extraordinary session of the Parliament Wednesday.
“I ask the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy to convene an extraordinary session of the Parliament tomorrow, May 22, to amend the deputies election law,” he said.

In 2014, the coalition “European Ukraine” was created. Members of the coalition were the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, People’s Front, Radical Party, Self Reliance, and Fatherland parties. The last three factions left the coalition in 2016.
However, the official collapse of the coalition was not announced until May 17, when the People’s Front faction left.
