The United States gave aid to Ukraine for the construction of facilities for the Ukrainian Navy and those projects are nearing completion.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the project includes reconstruction of facilities needed for the full-fledged Sea Breeze exercise, particularly the reinforcement and upgrade of existing piers and construction of new floating docks.

According to Breaking Defense, The US aid also includes security fencing around the bases, ship repair facilities, and a pair of brand new Maritime Operations Centers from which Ukrainian and NATO forces can direct exercises and coordinate activities. Dive teams also will map out the seafloor to make sure it’s able to dock bigger ships there.

Construction of the Maritime Operation Centers, ship repair facilities, as well as checkpoints along the perimeter of the Ochakiv security base, began in July 2017 through the military assistance provided by Foreign Military Construction Sales (FMCS), Ukrainian Military Pages reported.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Navy, Andriy Ryzhenko, said that the infrastructure is to be used within the common activities by Ukrainian sailors, and not only during the joint NATO exercises.

The US also plans to build new dormitories for the Ukrainian Navy in Mykolaiv.
