UN Secretary-General António Guterres has firmly condemned today’s massive Russian attack on several Ukrainian regions.
This was stated by UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, speaking to press in New York, UATV English reports:
“The Secretary-General strongly condemns today’s attack by the Russian Federation on several regions of Ukraine, which killed at least six people in Kyiv and two more in the city of Chornomorsk.”
The strike caused numerous civilian casualties, damaged residential buildings, energy infrastructure, and even the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Kyiv, Dujarric added.
Guterres stressed that attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law.
Such attacks are unacceptable “and must stop immediately,” Dujarric said, quoting the Secretary-General.
Guterres also reminded all parties of the inviolability of diplomatic premises.
He reiterated his call for:
“A full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire as a first step toward a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine,”
one that “fully upholds Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, in line with the UN Charter, international law, and relevant UN resolutions.”
As reported by Ukrinform, the main target of Russia’s overnight strikes was Kyiv, with additional attacks hitting Kyiv region, Kharkiv region, Odesa region, and Sumy region.
