Ukraine and Sweden have discussed the delivery of Gripen fighter jets, strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, and expanding bilateral defense cooperation, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said following talks with his Swedish counterpart, Pål Jonson, UATV English reports.
According to Fedorov, the ministers focused on enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, developing middle- and deep-strike capabilities, and advancing joint defense initiatives.
“One of Gripen’s key advantages is its ability to employ Meteor missiles. This is one of the aircraft’s major strengths in protecting Ukraine’s skies. We are also working on further deliveries of missiles for air defense systems and advancing our anti-ballistic project, which remains one of our top priorities for protecting Ukrainian cities,” Fedorov said.
The ministers also discussed expanding the broader defense partnership between Ukraine and Sweden as Kyiv continues to strengthen cooperation with European allies in the defense sector.
The talks come as Ukraine works to accelerate the modernization of its air force and air defense while deepening joint defense-industrial cooperation with partner countries.
