U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he sees no progress in resolving the war between Russia and Ukraine. As a result, he is shortening the ceasefire deadline to 10–12 days from today.
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced he will shorten the 50-day deadline he previously set for Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to reach a peace agreement in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
He made this statement ahead of his meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Thornbury, Scotland.
The American president once again expressed his dissatisfaction with Putin’s actions, particularly with Russia’s continued missile attacks on Ukrainian cities.
“I’ve spoken with President Putin many times. We got along very well… four or five times — maybe even more — we discussed this matter (Trump was addressing Starmer at that moment — Ed.), we thought we had resolved it multiple times. And then President Putin goes and launches missiles at cities — like Kyiv — killing a lot of people… I’m very disappointed in President Putin,” said Trump.
He added that he intends to shorten “those 50 days I gave him to a smaller number, because I already know what’s going to happen.”
Earlier this month, Trump threatened to impose “harsh tariffs” of “around 100%” on Russian goods if no deal to end the war in Ukraine is reached within 50 days.
Before that, the U.S. president publicly expressed doubt — perhaps for the first time — that the Russian leader “truly wants peace,” noting that Putin says “a lot of nonsense.”
Trump also confirmed his intention to send various types of weaponry to Ukraine, including Patriot air defense systems, which he said would be “fully paid for.”
