The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the appeal to the world community due to the preparation of elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the occupied Crimea, as well as the involving the residents of the uncontrolled Donbas with Russian passports to them. The resolution was supported by 318 deputies.

This is reported by UA with reference to the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

By the adopted resolution, the Rada recognizes that the intention of the occupation authorities to hold elections to the State Duma on September 19, 2021 in the territory of the occupied Crimea, Sevastopol, as well as involving residents of the occupied Donbass with Russian passports, is a violation of the Constitution and legislation of Ukraine.

In addition, the holding of such elections violates the UN Charter, the OSCE Final Act of August 1, 1975, the Budapest Memorandum, the UN General Assembly Resolution “Territorial Integrity of Ukraine” No. 68/262 and other documents.

The deputies approved the appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to international organizations, governments and parliaments of foreign countries in connection with the illegal preparation of elections to the State Duma of Russia by the resolution.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said that voting in the elections to the State Duma of residents of temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and Crimea would make them illegitimate.

To remind, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleksii Reznikov estimated Russia is spending on the maintenance of the occupied territories USD 5 billion annually.
